September 4, 1934 - November 5, 2020
Jane "Wilma" Robinson was born September 4, 1934 to the late Otis Cortez Batchelor and Effie (Harper) Batchelor. She was born and raised in Philadelphia, PA. Although educated in the Philadelphia Public School System, Wilma later graduated from Palmyra High School in 1953 after the family moved to Delair, NJ. Wilma was affectionately known as "Aunt Wilma". A select few dubbed her "Flintstone". As the story goes, her mother wanted to name her "Jane", but her father preferred "Wilma". Thus, they named her Jane but agreed to call her "Wilma". Years later, Wilma reconciled the matter by legally changing her name to Jane Wilma Robinson. Wilma married Bernard Robinson on August 28, 1953. They were divorced on December 12, 1973. Their union bore four children: Martine "Pockie" Robinson, Cheryl Robinson, Don Robinson and Cindy (Robinson) Johnson. After earning her license as a medical lab technician, Wilma worked as a histologist in the Histology Lab at Cooper Hospital for 18 years, as well as the Podiatry Lab at Temple University Hospital for 8 years. A hard-working, fun-loving person, Wilma was always vivacious and loved to dance. She treasured her many trips with the Homestead Youth Association. She enjoyed browsing around yard sales and she especially took pride in dressing well. Wilma cherished spending time with her family and going to Sunday service at Macedonia Temple Baptist Church in Cherry Hill, NJ. Wilma is survived by four children: Pockie, Cheryl, Don (Melvette) and Cindy; grandchildren: Cassandra Brackney, Leonard Brackney Jr. (Alisha), Shawn White, Tia White, Sendia White, Chelsea Quezergue, Torian Robinson; great-grandchildren: Amyah Brackney, Aureliah Jane Brackney, Kasen Thompson, Milan Thompson, Ghiyonni Floyd, Messiah White; four siblings: Jean Johnson, Maxine Lucas, Cortez Batchelor (Octavia), Milton Batchelor (Sylvenna); sister-in-law, Carolyn Nix; and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her mother, Effie, father, Otis, and brother, Karl "Sonny" Batchelor. Family and friends are invited to her viewing from 9:00am - 11:00am and service at 11:00am on Monday, November 16, 2020 at Inglesby and Sons Funeral Home, 2426 Cove Road, Pennsauken, NJ 08109. Internment to follow at Arlington Cemetery.
